Florida Beaches Get A “D” Rating

A new report from the Surfrider Foundation gives Florida beaches a "D." The low score is due to what the environmental groups regards as overdevelopment at the beach, and instead of finding ways to prevent erosion just dumping more sand to replace what was lost. You can view the full report here.

The Hillsborough County Fire Department is reminding people who drive cars with a keyless ignition to make sure it's actually turned off. Thomas Martino of Davis Island died from carbon monoxide poisoning and his wife Pamela was hospitalized. HCFD thinks the family's SUV parked in the garage was left running.

The CDC has cleared all romaine lettuce as safe to eat again. The E. coli outbreak which was inked to romaine lettuce from some regions of Northern and Central California made 62 people sick in 16 states. The USDA is still investigating the sources of the outbreak.

There's a new scam targeting SunPass users. A warning from FDOT says fake emails are being sent from the address SunPassNotice@ezpass-collections.net. FDOT does not send past due notices through email and if you've received one and would like to let them know go to www.SunPass.com , or call the SunPass Customer Service Center at 1-888-865-5352.

Beer and robocalls have something in common thanks to the government shut down - productivity. It's down for breweries that can't release new brews because the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is shut down and they approve new the new brews and labeling. But robocalls are up with the FTC shut down and all complaints are shifted to their web site.

Gas prices in the Bay area are at a two year low. AAA reports the average price here is $2.01 per gallon for now. Come spring expect a significant increase.

The IRS says even with the government shutdown you can still file and get your tax refund. That news came out Monday from the White House Office of Management and Budget.
