St Pete City Council will vote on banning plastic straws and styrofoam products at today's meeting. It's expecrted to pass and would be law starting January 1st, 2020. A lot of businesses have already stopped using plastic straws when the No Straws St. Pete campaign began.
The Tampa Bay Bucs will play a game in Mexico City or London next season as part of the NFL's international games. No dates have been announced but other NFL teams participating include Jacksonville, Los Angeles Raiders and Rams and Oakland.
Four of the top leaders at Johns Hopkins All Childrens Hospital have resignedincluding President, Vice Dean and Physician-in-Chief Dr. Jonathan Ellen. They stepped down after a Tampa Bay Times report on deaths and other serious issues in the the cardiovascular surgery division. The board is conducting a comprehensive external review of the division.
The Tampa Bay Rays deal for a move to Ybor City is dead. Rays President Matt Silverman said they ran out of time to make the deal. It now appears the Rays will stay at the Trop until their lease ends in 2027.
The National Transportation Board cited serious issues with the Island Princess charter boat that caught on fire last January, resulting in one woman's death. Insufficient preventive maintenance,, on fire detection system on the board, fuel lines that were made from the wrong materials and crew members that were improperly trained.
